As the weather begins to warm up and the days get longer, it's time to look for inspiration outdoors. With BBQ season on the horizon, why not prepare for this wonderful time of year with some traditional Japanese cooking and dining?Â
Â
We love nothing more than creating an outdoor living space to host gatherings with our loved ones. One of our favourite places to spend spring days is in the Snow Peak Lounge Shell Shelter which is designed to celebrate traditional Japanese dining and features a circular table for hosting gatherings.Â
Â
In traditional Japanese houses, people often gather around the hearth to listen to the sound of the fire, and this is something we can also enjoy while camping. Fire has always been at the centre of human connection, and gathering around open flames, to experience the tranquility of nature is a wonderful way to deepen relationships and strengthen bonds with the people we love.

The Lounge Shell shelter is intended for gathering and dining, rather than sleeping. It has a unique ventilation system that draws cold air in from the bottom and allows smoke to escape through vents around the top edge and central opening, allowing you to create an authentic Japanese-style BBQ inside. It can comfortably seat up to six adults and comes complete with an insulated custom mat for comfort, an Iron Grill Table frame table setup, and a charcoal BBQ box.
The IGT table can be used on its own or with various other options which are available separately, such as longer legs or different-sized extensions. Similarly, the BBQ Box can be used solo, or with a frame with longer legs for the perfect waist-height BBQ setup. The modular nature of the IGT system means the possibilities are endless.
Teppanyaki is a beloved culinary tradition in Japan, and you can enjoy a similar experience by sitting around the circular IGT table in the Living Shell. Plus, if you prefer to use the Lounge Shell separately, it can be utilised in a variety of ways, whether it's to shelter from sudden showers or get away from those annoying bugs on a hot summer evening.
To help you get started on your spring bbq journey, we've put together some delicious, easy-to-cook recipes, so you can enjoy the outdoors in true Japanese style.
