Snow Peak Matthew's Autumn Staples

Matthew is Snow Peak UK’s Wholesale Experience Manager. His role allows him to deepen the connection between our products and campers, inviting them to experience the outdoors the Snow Peak way.

He began his fashion career interning at Saville Row where he discovered a passion for pattern cutting and design. This, combined with his love of the outdoors eventually led him to Snow Peak, initially as a customer, and more recently, in his current role.

Matthew has always been drawn to the Nordic States. He finds the cold climate and rugged natural landscapes a source of inspiration for his style, which strikes a balance between fashion consciousness and outdoor functionality.

As we head into Autumn, we spoke to Matthew about his camping trip essentials and how he integrates some of the pieces into his everyday life.

The Flexible Insulated Cardigan

Windproof, water resistant and extremely warm: The Flexible Insulated Cardigan is a perfect all-rounder for the colder months. Made of predominantly recycled material, the Primaflex fabric has excellent heat retention, making it an ideal mid-layer that is light enough to wear under a jacket.

When camping, versatility and flexibility are key, and the 4-way stretch fabric will allow you to pitch your tent without feeling restricted. Like many Snow Peak items, it packs down into a small bag and crucially, for Matthew, is machine washable, making it easy to integrate into his everyday life in London.

The Fire Resistant 2 Layer Down Jacket

This jacket appeals to the tailor in Matthew. Warm and technical, it is a season favourite that combines style with functionality, making it equally perfect for the city as the countryside.

The relaxed and stylish silhouette combines a hybrid kimono and raglan sleeve with a traditional yoke, normally reserved for a Japanese kimono. The rounded shape allows for unrestricted movement and its fire-resistant functionality makes it the ultimate companion for Takibi time. The pockets are carefully positioned at an angle to ensure rain falls away from the body and it also has a detachable hood.

Hybrid Wool Trouser

Matthew’s go-to trousers for everyday wear feature a contemporary cut and a wool and nylon blend fabric that gives a smart silhouette with a modern, technical edge. Super comfortable and unisex, they feature an elasticated waist that makes them suitable for indoor and outdoor use, along with drawstrings at the hem that transforms them into a jogger-style shape. The wider, loose legs allow enough space for an underlayer during cooler temperatures, making them perfect for any camping trip, plus, like Matthew, you can take advantage of the crease-proof material and wear them to work.

Light Packable Rain

This is Matthew’s rain jacket of choice. Its metallic look is sure to catch the eye, plus the lightweight fabric (made of fully recycled material) is unusual for a jacket that is completely waterproof. Like most of us, Matthew hates being caught in the rain, so he loves having a waterproof jacket with deep pockets and a hood, that can be folded down to the smallest size and carried with him wherever he goes.

 4Way Dry Bag M

As a keen open-water swimmer, Matthew uses his 4Way Dry Bag to store his wetsuit and towel when he's going for a dip. Easy to carry, either as a backpack or by its handle, it features a roll top, and is extremely durable and waterproof with enough capacity for all your camping necessities.

Recycled Cotton Crew Neck Sweat Shirt

Part of Snow Peak’s Recycled Cotton collection, Matthew loves this oversized crewneck pullover, which has become a cosy staple in his cold-season wardrobe (he has it in both grey and cream!). It features two pockets and a relaxed, yet smart cut that creates a more ‘put together’ look, appealing to Matthew's sense of style, plus the pill-resistant upcycled cotton material means it will remain soft to the touch for its lifetime.

Sustainability and longevity are very important to us here at Snow Peak. While we’ve collected and recycled polyester fabrics for some time, more recently, we’ve expanded our efforts to natural cotton fibres which are often worn on a daily basis. In the UK we're currently working towards a completely circular system, as it is in the US and Japan.

Our Recycled Cotton Collection is now available online and in-store.
