Our goal is to make camping accessible to everyone. We want to remove as many barriers as possible and help you get out there and explore. Our Camp 101 session will be held in our London St James’ store café. Grab a coffee with fellow campers, and join us for an interactive guide on how to camp.
Whether it’s safety concerns for solo adventurers, recipe ideas for big families, or simple tips and tricks that will make your trips so much more enjoyable, we understand that everyone has different, fears, needs and requirements, which is why we welcome all questions and queries. Our camp experts, who have varied levels of experience, will be on hand to help guide you on your journey.
We will go through the basics including:
What you’ll need for your trip.
Where to go.
How to book a campsite.
One of our favourite parts of these sessions is sharing stories. It's a great way to learn from each other's experiences and avoid mistakes while camping.
Once we've introduced ourselves, we'll dive into the basics of camping gear. Whatever time of year you're planning your trip, we'll guide you through the best shelter options, the best sleeping bags for colder temperatures, and the most useful camping bags.
We’ll also run through our tried and tested camp favourites. We'll cover the pros and cons of mummy-shaped sleeping bags, synthetic versus down insulation, and how to stay warm in colder climates.
By the end of our session, you'll have all the information that you’ll need to make informed decisions when selecting your camping gear.
Next, we’ll take a look at our shelter.
Setting up tents together in a judgement-free environment is a great way to learn. Haven’t set up a tent before? Never fear, we'll guide you through it. Did you know that our tents have colour-coded parts to make the set-up easier? We'll also cover universal tent care and safety tips that apply to all shelters.
Now, it’s time for our favourite topic: food. We've moved beyond packet noodles and have discovered a range of delicious, easy-to-cook meals to enjoy around the campfire. We’ll be sharing recipes for all levels and dietary requirements, and guide you through the best methods for cooking on your campfire, plus sharing important safety tips, such as why you should never use aluminium on open flames.
Gathering around the campfire with friends is one of the best aspects of camping. We'll end our session by discussing our fireplaces, and Takibi Time - a moment to gather around the fire, share stories, and reflect on the day.
Time spent in nature brings us closer together.
All of our knowledge is based on years of experience. We’ve camped in all seasons, all over the world, on bikes, on foot, solo, and with pets! From creating your own hot water bottles to choosing the best headwear for rainy weather, we want to give you all the knowledge you’ll need to have the best possible camping adventures.
